McCain/Palin for President!

Our little shirt factory got a boost this weekend with the introduction of this original Darrin Powers design. They sold like crazy at the Alaska State Fair today and Darrin got interviewed by the New York Times. This is a play off a popular slogan about Alaska being the coldest state with the hottest governor.

Back in Photoshop

I spent a quiet evening at home tonight while the two older kids were miniature golfing with daddy and the little man was sleeping soundly. In that time I managed to throw together another digital scrapbook page which was the final assignment from my last digi class. This assignment was actually due in July but I was out of town and couldn't complete it. But better late than never, right? The theme of the page was to be "The View From Here" and had to incorporate at least two photos and some favorite techniques from the class.

These photos were taken at the beginning of May in our neighbors apple tree.

First Gymnastics Classes

Wow. I'm such a liar. I totally forgot to bring my camera to the kids' first gymnastics class last night. I'm really losing my touch. Here's the breakdown in words instead of pictures.

Jaycob was in an all boys class ages 4 to 11. There were 9 kids in his class. They did some tumbling and stretching and trampolining. He told me had had fun but "I don't like it when they teach me stuff." Just like in wrestling, Jake just wants to run around and do his own thing rather than be told what to do and then have to wait his turn to do it. School is going to be an adventure for sure. He also has this thing where he won't obey anyone who isn't mom or dad. Unless we are standing there saying "be quiet!" or "obey your coach!" he just won't listen to them. It's frustrating and we aren't quite sure how to deal with it yet.

Jordy Bug is the exact opposite of her brother. This was her first structured class activity and I kept getting teary eyed watching her in her class. Probably with all the worry and frustration over Jake, it was such a blessing to watch Jordan never take her eyes off her teacher. She payed close attention and did her best at everything that was asked of her (except dropping into the foam pit from the high bar but only one kid in her class was willing to do that) she was such a good little student and I was so proud of her. She is in a three year old class with both boys and girls and there are about 6 or 7 kids in her group.

It will be interesting to see how subsequent weeks pan out. Maybe I just shouldn't watch Jake's classes.

Pecking Order

Jakey made everyone some lego airplanes. I think he's trying to send a message.

Happy Birthday Big Daddy!

Today was Darrin's 32nd birthday. We didn't do much, just hung out as a family.

Hello Handsome.

The Final Days of our Summer Trip

We spent the last few days of our summer trip at Darrin's sister's house in Oklahoma. It was so hot that we could only venture out in the evenings and even then we had to be playing in water.

This was in the evening of our first night there.

On Saturday we played at Grand Lake and went jet skiiing, water skiing and swimming. It was 113 degrees that day.

Grandma and Joshy.

Jakey learning how to swim by himself. Daddy is a good coach.

Josh didn't want to learn to swim.

The hot dog. This crazy contraption is NOT SAFE.

Daddy and Jake driving the boat while Uncle Rusty tears it up on water skiis.

Darrin's turn on the skiis.

Jordy and cousin Abigayl.

And we're off to Alaska. And studying up on our aircraft saftey procedures.

Still Trying to Catch Up

Okay, so moving on from the family reunion, our next adventure was flying as a family to Oklahoma to visit Darrin's sister and her husband and new baby, as well as Darrin's grandma.

This is us at the airport in Seattle. Lots of waiting around.

Jake made fast friends with his cousin, Sidney, whom he met for the first time when he was about 9 months old. They obviously didn't remember each other though.

The best way to beat the Kansas heat? Water guns of course.

A family picture before we hit the road to Oklahoma for the rest of our trip.

On the drive to Oklahoma. Some country side and an oil pump jack.

Stewart Reunion '08

This post might take a while to load because there are a LOT of pictures.

The Stewart Family Reunion was held at my brother, Paul's house near Ranier, Washington. We got to see my grandmother and all my aunts and uncles. Also in attendance were a couple of my brothers, and a few of the cousins. My Grandma gave me a packet of geneology information for her side of the family and that made me down right giddy.

My Grandma, Tookie and some of the great grand children. Jake, Jordy, Joshy and Lia.

Two of my brothers, Paul and JR.

My Aunt Becky took the kids blackberry hunting. Jordan's white shirt will never be the same!

Shooting the breeze.

Someone with a really cute face.

My Pops and his mommy.

My pretty mommy.

My brother, JR, my Uncle Matt and his son, my cousin Tom.

My sister in law, Kate and her husband, my brother, JR.

My Aunt Debbie and my cousin Anna. She can kick your butt at soccer.

The event coordinators. My brother Paul and his wife, Beth.

Darrin taking the kids out to explore.

It was great to have the chance to attend the family reunion this year. Living so far away does not afford me many opportunities to be with family. I was grateful to have been able to visit a bit with those that were there. I miss you all!

Getting Back to Updates

Okay, I have a lot to catch up on now that I'm home, so please bear with me as I slowly get this thing updated.

My last post left off with a trip to Remlinger Farms and this post starts us off a couple of days later when I traveled around to squeeze in a few more visits with friends before Darrin arrived in town.

This is friend Heidi. We've been friends since we were tiny and she lived next door to me most of my life. We met up with her at the park and I was excited to meet her little baby girl, Addison.

Later in the day I met up with another high school friend, Megan and her two kids. Megan is the creator of Peekaboo Picks magazine and she lets me write crafting articles for her.

Finally together again. Darrin flew down from Alaska on a Thursday looking like a rugged fisherman. The kids were so excited to see him and show him all around Grandma and Peepaw's house.
