Annoyed

Is it wrong of me, when I see the older, bigger kid picking on my son during gymnastics, that I want to turn to his oblivious, ignorant mother and punch her in the face?

Another Win!!

Today the Clone Troopers pulled out yet another win. The first half was close though and it wasn’t until half time that we realized our hoop was several inches higher than the other team’s hoop. The error was fixed, not that it helped us since the teams trade ends of the court at half time. But our lead lengthened substantially with the correct hoop height and we blew the other team away, as usual.

So proud of Jakey.

He has evolved so much since the first game where he just ran back and forth and picked at his fingernails the whole time. He still gets confused about whether he’s on offense or defense sometimes (heck, in all the excitement, I can’t keep it straight either) but when he knows he’s on defense, he gets intense and he’s really going after those rebounds now. Today he fought for several rebounds and got a couple jump ball calls. And he chased a ball out of bounds on his knees and was really proud of the strawberry burns he got for his efforts.

He loves basketball!!!

Here is is about to shoot the ball...

And this is where I got so excited that I put down the camera and started cheering like a crazy mom. The shot didn’t go in but it hit the rim and it was the first time he’s shot the ball since he made a basket in his very first game.

Spirit Week Day 3

I am awesome.

I forgot to take a picture.

Yesterday was day 3 of spirit day. Each student had the option of dressing up in their class color. Jake’s class color was PURPLE so needless to say, he passed on that. Jordan’s class color was red and silver so we dressed her up in a red skirt and shirt and covered one of Darrin’s adjustable hats in tin foil.

The staff color was turquoise, so Darrin wore the same baby blue XXXXXL sweatpants from Day one and added a matching tshirt.

Spirit Week Day 2

Today the elementary school had the option of dressing in Hawaiian or Western garb. We went western.

The kids were super mad at me because I forgot to take a picture until they were outside heading to the car. I made them stop, take off their coats (it’s -4 degrees) and hug and smile. Sort of.

The high school had the option of dressing like their favorite faculty member today. Several kids expressed to Darrin that they were dressing like him so to be helpful, he wore his basketball team warmups (what a sacrifice!) and his entire team dressed in theirs also. I expect there will be some artfully applied eyeliner beards happening today.

Spirit Week!

It’s Spirit Week at school this week. Each day we get to dress up, be silly and go to school. Today the choice was either military dress or mismatch dress. Jaycob chose the military option and Darrin and Jordan went all crazy with their mismatch outfits.

It’s Valentine’s Day

For some reason, my kids were overly excited about the approach of Valentine’s day. I don’t know if they thought it was going to be like Christmas, or what, but all I heard for the week prior was the countdown to the BIG DAY. This actually put a lot of pressure on me to deliver something fabulous. Which really was the pits because I dislike holidays in general and Valentine’s Day in particular.

So in true “me” fashion, I took Doobie to the store ON VALENTINE’S DAY while the other kids were in school and I picked up a few treats and bought a package of Valentine-y cookies to bake, grabbed a Starbucks and a last minute card for my hubby and went home.

I promptly burned the cookies. That’s just how I roll.

I whipped up a little plate of goodies for each kid, had them set out when they got home from school and TADA! Valentine’s Day. So glad that’s over.

Darrin admitted that he almost bought me flowers but knew I would be more annoyed than happy about them. He was right. He was super annoyed that I got him a card. But it was funny so I don’t care. Then I wrote mushy stuff inside because sometimes I feel mushy about how much I love him.

Jake’s loot from school. He was flipping out that he got a conversation heart that said, “let’s kiss!"

Another Dose of Jordy-Roo

This girl’s life is a musical. She dressed up to put on a show for me and I couldn’t help but remember the many “shows” I put on for my parents that they caught on video.

Because I’m Twelve

I should know by now that when my four year old says, “Mom! You have got to see this!” It usually means a trip to the bathroom. I then find myself making sufficient comments about how impressed I am and he usually responds with, “I poop-ded HUGE!” I nod my head and give him a poop cookie.

You know those Little Debbie brand oatmeal deals with the cream in the middle? Those are poop cookies. Called so because they originated as a reward for when my now seven year old first learned to poop on the potty. Now everyone calls them poop cookies. Even my parents and they live 2500 miles away.

At the grocery store I purposely drive past the Little Debbie display very slowly so that my four year old can yell, “CAN WE BUY POOP COOKIES!?” at the top of his lungs while he practically sproings out of the cart. It makes me laugh every single time because I am a twelve year old trapped in a thirty-three year old’s body.

Other things that make me laugh?

When my son looks up from playing transformers and randomly declares, “Mom, spider eggs are almost like noodles.” Or when my daughter gives my sick boy his favorite stuffed gorilla and says, “oh, he’s so happy because he’s playing with his monkey!”

Yes. It makes me laugh. It makes my husband roll his eyes and pretend he doesn’t know me, which makes me laugh harder.

Because I’m twelve.

Mini Snoozer

I was working on a photo project recently and stumbled across this pic of Jordan snoozing when she was about 4 years old. I remembered a similar shot from when we were getting ready to leave the hospital after she was born and thought I’d do a comparison.

Same blanket!

The Entryway

I finally finished the canvas collage of my babies that hangs in my entryway. It took awhile because I didn’t have a ladder (I ended up using a tall chair and almost killed myself), and I ran out of command strips halfway through. But now it’s done and looks pretty nifty.
