Spring, Sort of.

While Spring is doing it’s usual strip tease in Alaska, Jordan’s kindergarten class celebrated the season by doing a bean planting science project in their class. As usual, I documented the event via digital media and Joshy had the opportunity to participate by default.

The thing about Jordan is, she’s VERY easy to impress. She just couldn’t believe that she was going to have the opportunity to plant things herself and then watch them grow over the next few weeks. Darrin would say she has a very low “awe factor” which means it doesn’t take much to render her “in awe.” As opposed to Darrin, who has a very high awe factor. Nothing is awesome to him. A 26 glacier cruise through the most beautiful scenery Alaska has to offer, where glaciers were calving and whole mountains were falling off in front of us? And then a huge land slide and THEN a forest fire? He was like, “meh.”

Anyway, back to my daughter. The expression on her face in the above photo, while I didn’t really notice it at the time (being behind the camera), actually kind of puts a lump in my throat because it is so Jordan. Just always excited and seeing everything as being special. Gah! I love her so hard.

Joshy was excited too. I love that he gets to participate in Kindergarten all the time.

Looking at a bean that was already sprouting in the package.

Filling up their pots with dirt. We get to touch dirt?

Happily patting down the dirt and adding water.

Smelling the dirt. Jordan loves dirt. And sticks. Which reminds me that she calls pinecones, acorns, which makes me laugh.

After their soil was prepared, they poked holes with pencils and added three bean seeds. Looking forward to seeing the progress over the next few weeks. Joshy’s pot will be sitting right along side the rest of the class’s.

In other news...

While we were there I noticed that Jordan had a math paper posted on the bulletin board in the hallway outside her classroom. One of a few perfect scores (her’s is the bottom middle one).

And after that...

We wandered down to the high school to visit Daddy in his classroom where he was busily grading math tests and looking all studious.
